You could come and work in any of the following departments:
Corporate Markets
Our relationship sales teams are responsible for the client relationship, business development and sales activities for customers, consortia and consultants who require complex risk management products and services. Our Energy Marketing team provides technical product development, structured product sales support and real time coverage of the energy markets. The Generation Services team holds primary responsibility for the purchase of renewable energy for the Retail business, and the management of our positions in these products. And our Strategic Business Development team develops and delivers structural growth opportunities, including strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and new market initiatives.
Portfolio Management
Portfolio Management is responsible for the management of the wholesale risks arising in retail and corporate markets by entering into hedge transactions with our Trading business and offsetting transactions. The team is made up of three sections: Forward Hedging, Complex Risk and Origination. Forward Hedging is responsible for hedging underlying positions in power, gas and environmental commodities and providing analysis of internal and external data to inform and improve hedging decisions. The Complex Risk team is responsible for managing less liquid power and gas risks; understanding risk exposures and the fundamentals of the wholesale energy market; and optimising the value of gas storage and other contracts and assets we have in the business. Origination liaises with a range of departments and stakeholders across npower and our Trading business to support the management of retail risks. Origination also keeps up-to-date with market and regulatory developments, providing support across Portfolio Management for system changes and model developments and coordinates the approvals process for each new retail risk hedge.
Commercial Development
Commercial Development are a key part of the Commercial business. Responsible for development of systems and processes, the team operate in a highly complex environment of major change, strategy development and technical expertise. This is a small team that works with managers across Commercial and the wider Retail business identifying and exploiting opportunities to add value to the business. Key attributes for people in the Commercial Development team include; self starters, get things done, great networkers, and capable of taking on a diverse rage of projects.
Structuring and Modelling
Recognised as the company experts in modelling commodity risks and structuring products to hedge them, we develop sophisticated models to forecast and price risks. To achieve this we employ econometrics, statistics and stochastic theory. We focus primarily on the risks that arise from the power and gas supply contracts that npower has with end-users. However we also provide quantitative services to other companies within the RWE Group (RWE Innogy, RWE Energy). Our people tend to be highly quantitative with postgraduate qualifications.
Risk Management
Our team comprises of Risk Pricing & Costing, Credit Risk Management and Market & Operational Risk Management. It's our responsibility to manage retail market, credit, and middle office operational risk within the appetite of the Retail business and within the Corporate and Group Risk Control frameworks.
Industry Networks and Agreements
Working closely with other RWE npower teams, we work to anticipate and monitor industry change, and to establish and communicate the impact of this change on the business. It's also our job to help the business cope with these changes whilst complying with industry requirements, as well as forecasting their associated costs. Commercial Settlements, within INA, ensure that all direct costs to npower and our customers are accurate and are minimised in line with industry regulations. We also manage agreements with external counterparts and agencies such as National Grid Transco, the Distribution Network Operators & the Balancing and Settlement Administrator (Elexon).
