Application process
Next Steps
First of all you’ll complete an (1). online application form. You’ll need to register for the specific area you’re interested in. There are also a few competency-based questions which should take about an hour.
Secondly we’ll set you a numerical/verbal test. The verbal test is for Quantitative Risk only – the numerical is for all schemes. You’ll need to set aside around 20 minutes for each test.
After this we’ll hold an interview over the phone which should last around an hour. Again, it’s competency-based, so make sure you have solid examples to substantiate all you’ve said on your application form.
Finally you’ll be invited to attend an Assessment Centre. Be warned, it’s first come first served so make sure you get your place as soon as you can.
For non-engineering candidates, this is held for one day at our head office in Swindon. You’ll be asked to prepare a short presentation for a panel of assessors (titles given in advance), complete a competency-based interview, looking at both your technical knowledge and your soft skills. You will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of npower and its operating environment. Finally, the day will include a group exercise, which concentrates primarily on your soft skills and how you interact in a team environment. It is important that you speak up and play an active role in the group to gain a good mark in this exercise.
For engineering candidates we hold a two day event. It’s the same format (with an addition technical element to the interview) as above but will also include a written exercise and a trip to one of our power stations.
All offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory references, security clearance, identity check, criminal record check, credit check, proof of qualifications and immigration clearance where appropriate. You will also be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.
