Engineering Internship - Pembroke Power Station

Pembroke power station is a 2,000MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station, currently under construction in west Wales.  When fully operational, it will be the largest and most efficient CCGT power station in the UK.

The placement will be a bespoke opportunity, as the experience gained will be tailored to the interests of the applicant.  Areas this will include are:

  • Engineering department - working on projects with electrical, control or mechanical engineers, including experience of maintenance outages and technical inspections.
  • Business Performance Section - working with thermal and commercial performance engineers on optimising the technical efficiency of the plant
  • Regulation Section - working with chemists on technical issues in our water treatment plant, or with environmental engineers on our environmental compliance.
  • Operations Section - spending some time on shift, to experience the operation of the plant.

 

The placement will include on the job training and soft-skills courses.

This fixed-term opportunity will start in 2012 and last for 12 months, the start date is flexible, but it is anticipated that it will start in September.

The successful candidate will be studying for a recognised honours degree in any engineering discipline, environmental science, physics or chemistry.  In addition, the successful candidate will be an excellent team player, highly-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills.
