The main purpose of this role is to support the Costing Development Manager in the design, development, implementation and ongoing support of SME Margin Optimisation developments, working across Commercial, Customer Markets and Finance in designing the operational and technical infrastructure needed to deliver these developments.
This role will design, build and implement the tools and applications to provide timely and accurate reporting of pricing and cost data, in addition to insight into the behaviour of the data and risks to support and improve the pricing and costing activities of the Margin Optimisation team.
This role offers a great opportunity to shape the future IS landscape within Commercial Optimisation and would suit an individual who is keen to be involved in this exciting process.
This role will also include working with the Costing Development Manager to meet with operational teams to understand their requirements clearly and to provide technical expertise to the Costing Development Manager to ensure that they can create specifications from stakeholder/project requirements, understanding what can and cannot be achieved operationally. The post holder will be required to challenge current cross business
development processes and work across the business to improve performance whilst being able to interface across the business to promote understanding of each others risks and issues, working together to resolve queries and improve efficiencies.
You will liaise with existing IS teams to move off-line developments into IS supported systems where possible, design, develop, deliver and maintain off-line developments for SME Margin Optimisation costing team and develop ownership of supporting documentation for any models created.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills/experience:
• Detailed understanding of databases, modelling and system design
• Ability to identify opportunities to utilise alternative technical solutions to deliver additional benefits from developments
• Education to degree level or equivalent – preferably numerate degree
• Understanding of the UK wholesale and retail energy markets
• Understanding of the key drivers and interactions of commercial risks to P&L and across the Retail business
• Strong business and technical acumen
• Advanced level of Numeracy, strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel, Access, VBA & SQL
• Able to work to deadlines and be a self motivator with the initiative to identify issues and find solutions
• Must have an eye for detail
• Have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively and influence at all levels
• Be results-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and produce clear and concise feedback/reports to senior management.
