Senior Electrical Estimator

Role Profile

Part of RWE npower, one of the UK’s largest gas and electricity suppliers, Energy Services is a relatively new business. As well as making sure npower products work as they should in consumers homes, Energy Services consists of several key areas including gas central heating systems servicing and repairs, metering services and developing new energy services and products for private domestic, council and social housing, Industrial and Commercial customers

Accountabilities

Assist in the management and development of the estimating team working with the business to help identify and exploit financial opportunities.

Prepare estimates from site inspections, drawings, specifications and bill of quantities for domestic and light commercial projects.

Examine tender documents, advising managers of bid prospects.

Assist in the management of the estimating team resource for effective delivery of information for proposals and best use of the skills available within the team.

Market test of sub-contract and plant packages to obtain competitive bid values.

Design pipe/cable sizing based on basic data.

Alternative product of service substitution.

Maintain up-to-date database of technical and pricing information, with support from the Energy Services supply chain.

Interpret CAD drawings and concepts for incorporation into tender documentation

Provide professional advice and technical support to the company, client and customer on all aspects of the estimate.

Prepare estimates, itemised tender pricing and procurement schedules for tenders, work programs and individual projects.

When required provide accurate and detailed survey information for incorporation in tenders for new projects and contracts.

Manage the handover of tender information to all parties in a timely and professional manner, ensuring all relevant information is communicated.

Ability to interpret industry specific regulations and requirements.

Act professionally and responsibly, maintaining standards of workmanship and conduct.

Promote good practice in Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

Assist Estimator Team Leader to set targets for, appraise, develop and review immediate reports and ensure this occurs for all departmental personnel.

Win 20% of submitted bids.

Knowledge and Skills

Qualified to at least HNC level in engineering services.

Able to analyse complex technical information and drawings and to propose solutions.

Good level of motivational skills required to work within a busy Proposals Team.

Skilled in maintaining and developing client relationships.

Commercial acumen essential to deliver financial targets.

Bid management skills with effective cost control to meet tender budgets.

Must have a strong problem solving aptitude.

Possess the ability to recognise financial opportunities.

Effective verbal and written communication skills a must.

Must be competent in the use of Microsoft Office in support of the computer estimating package.

Advanced motorist qualification preferred.

Health and safety qualification – IOSH preferred

Salary: c. £45,000
