Celebrating our community together at npower

30/11 2018Posted by: npower Resourcing Team Subscribe to this blog
The past few weeks have been full of festivity and giving at npower offices all over the country, with team members coming together to support Children in Need as well as sharing in each other’s successes with SpiritFest. 'Tis the season to celebrate and give, after all! Here’s what’s been happening:

Contact centres rally together for Children in Need

npower has a long history of supporting Children in Need, and this year saw our Worcester, Hull and Rainton contact centres taking part in the annual telethon. The 39th appeal was one of the biggest yet, raising more than £50 million and pushing the total money raised by the charity to more than £1 billion since the first major appeal in 1980.

Acting as official call centres for the appeal, our sites helped to raise funds by taking thousands of calls, with hundreds of team members volunteering their time to man the phones. In our seventh year of supporting the event, we were overwhelmed by the number of npower team members who wanted to support the cause and dedicate their time to fundraising, including those from other call centres who wanted to come together for Children in Need.

Spirits were buoyed throughout the night by special guests across all the venues, including Mayor of Worcester Jabba Riaz, MP Robin Walker, Worcestershire County Cricketers Josh Tongue and Dillon Pennington, X Factor’s Tre Amici, and even professional firemen and Hull rugby league players. The Hull contact centre alone took more than 950 calls and processed around £38,000, with Hull collecting over £50,000 and fielding around 1,5000 calls. All of this contributed to another fantastic fundraising effort from our npower team members.

Jabba Riaz, Mayor of Worcester, said, ‘’I was delighted to be at npower once again to witness the fantastic work they do for BBC Children in Need. Everyone did a great job and were really enjoying themselves, it’s amazing to see so many people giving up their free time for this wonderful cause’’

Closer to home, npower’s CEO Paul Coffey, who helped the team to take calls on the night, commented: ''I'm incredibly proud that we were once again chosen as official contact centres to take calls for BBC Children in Need. Thank you to everyone who volunteered across the Hull, Rainton and Worcester sites. It shows true commitment to give up your Friday night to take donation calls for this fantastic appeal. Another success story and amazing night had by all.''

Customer services teams let their hair down at SpiritFest

Our customer services teams enjoyed more festivities with #SpritFest2018, which took place at both our Hull and Rainton sites. Organised for customer services, for customer services, the event was designed to recognise the hard work of our team and put some sparkle and fun into the workplace.

More than 400 people enjoyed Hull’s festival-themed event, which featured a magician, singers and a DJ, a photo booth and dress-ups. There was even a David Brent lookalike! The large Rainton office saw 4,000 people enjoying the festivities alongside a stilt walker, singers, games and a flash mob. Team members well and truly got into the spirit of the day, enjoying the glitter and face painting booths, candy floss and popcorn.

Rescourcing Manager Helen Schultz said of the event: “It was really nice to see everyone in Hull embrace SpiritFest. I’m glad people enjoyed the day and made full use of everything on offer, I know the photo booth was very popular along with the popcorn, candy floss and the glitter! I hope it went someway to boost morale across the teams.”
