A career in procurement can take you to almost any industry, anywhere around the world. Tasked with improving growth and margins for businesses, the procurement function is a major contributor to an organisation’s overall success, delivering tangible benefits across a broad range of disciplines.

At innogy Renewables, we value the work our procurement professionals do on a daily basis. As our business has expanded and we’re taking on more in the world of renewables than ever before, we’ve identified the need to set up a brand new procurement team within the business. Located in Swindon and with the opportunity to travel throughout the UK and Europe, the new team will be responsible for the services and IT procurement across innogy Renewables. Made up of a Team Leader, two Procurement Specialists – one covering Services Procurement and one covering IT - and a Buyer, the team presents the perfect opportunity for procurement professionals to take the next step in an industry which is dynamic and ever-evolving.

What will the team do?

Working in a pre- and post-contract phase, the procurement team will engage with a diverse range of projects and tasks, picking up both IT and services work within the renewables environment. The team will support the infrastructure of innogy Renewables organisations within the UK, supporting both onshore and offshore projects activity within the projects and maintenance space.

Why work in procurement for renewable energy?

The rapid change and development we’ve seen within this space in recent years is expected to continue in line with ongoing demand for renewable energy, which makes this space an exciting one to work in. With renewable energy accounting for nearly two-thirds of net new power capacity globally in 2016, and future growth of the renewables market looking stronger than ever, it’s the perfect time to be joining the industry and helping to shape its future. The sheer pace and evolution of projects and technologies means that anyone working in our procurement team must have a strong appetite for change.

As these procurement roles within innogy Renewables are brand new, team members will have the unique opportunity to really shape and develop not only their own positions, but also the function within the business. On top of this, it’s a great opportunity for procurement professionals looking to impact environmental sustainability within an agile environment.

Am I a good fit?

To be a good fit for these roles, you’ll need to have exceptional communication skills and the ability to build relationships with people of all levels in an organisation, including key stakeholders both internally and externally in the supply chain. Our Team Leader and Procurement Specialists will be degree-educated or equivalent, with several years’ experience within procurement and ideally CIPS qualifications. Our Buyer will ideally have some industry experience or may be a talented graduate, potentially working towards CIPS. We are committed to the ongoing training and development of all our team members, and these procurement roles are no exception.

The right people for our procurement team will be those who can not only adapt to a changing environment, but will see this evolution as an exciting opportunity. The diverse set of categories contained within procurement at innogy Renewables makes this a great career step for someone looking to progress into renewable energy.
