Getting involved as a graduate: The Moxie network

16/10 2018Posted by: npower Resourcing Team Subscribe to this blog

As a graduate at npower, there's so much to get involved with beyond the day job. From training and development, charity and volunteering activities through to social opportunities, we have plenty to offer those new to our business. One of these is Moxie, npower’s women’s network that was set up in 2018, by graduates, now working as a member of npower's wider Diversity and Inclusion Community of Practice.

Moxie aims to bring together women from all across the business to enact positive change and help to ensure that we are truly diverse and inclusive of everyone in the company. Moxie activity includes partnering with HR, holding events at key sites, creating educational workshops and linking women together with the right resources. Hear what some of our Moxie members have to say:

"Developing a network like Moxie is crucial" - Nia Glover
It’s obvious that the energy industry is dominated by men, particularly in senior roles. For me this is why developing a network such as Moxie is so crucial – it’s offering a place for support, networking and guidance to empower the women within the industry to succeed, no matter what their role or ambition. Moxie is about being involved in something inherently inclusive, no matter your gender – highlighting that the energy industry is open to all and there is so much opportunity to go out and achieve what you want (and more!)

"It's important to encourage the pipeline of young talented woman in our business" - Jen Czapla
For me setting up and supporting Moxie as a graduate was so important to encourage the pipeline of young talented women coming through our business. I strongly believe that the key to a good business is making sure that the people we recruit and retain are diverse. Moxie is all about bringing women across the company together and ensuring that everyone is able to achieve their potential. As a graduate getting involved in workshops, building up networks and facilitating a positive working environment has been vital not only to my understanding of npower and the industry we operate in, but part of creating an inclusive and successful culture.

"I want to support other women to become more confident" - Beth Reeks
I was really passionate to be part of Moxie as my degree was a very male-dominated STEM subject, and my job is in a typically male-dominated area too. I believe that confidence that you can do these things is half the battle, and am keen to do something to support other women to become more confident, and show them they’ve got moxie!

Moxie has been a fantastic opportunity for graduates to get involved in influencing the company as we strive for a successful culture to support the business. Moxie has demonstrated that npower is in full support of encouraging a diverse and equal environment, especially for women. For more about what you can get involved in as a graduate, click here.
