How to kickstart your digital career

10/10 2018Posted by: npower Resourcing Team Subscribe to this blog

Careers in the digital and data space have become increasingly popular in recent years, as technology’s impact continues to be felt in our everyday lives. As the UK’s digital technology sector grew 2.6 times quicker than the rest of the economy in 2016-2017, and 1.87 million digital tech jobs in the UK as of 2018, it’s clear the digital market is crying out for talented professionals. Could you be one of them? Our Digital and Data Graduate Programme can help you kickstart your digital career.

About our graduate scheme

As we edge closer and closer towards being a data-driven company that offers a market-leading digital experience to all our customers, we need more technologically-minded people to help us become more digitally capable. Our Digital and Data graduate scheme, spanning a two-year, multiple placement period, is helping us to develop a pipeline of talented people to push us forward into the digital age. Graduates can sink their teeth into everything from project management and business analysis to digital customer experience and journey optimisation, data science and behavioural analytics, as well as exploring strategy, transformation and future technology.

Graduates are exposed to a wide range of business functions and roles, with the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, be innovative and creative and play a role in digitising the energy industry. You’ll learn to be savvy with data and look for patterns, trends and how it can be used to improve the customer journey.

Why work in digital?

At npower, we’re focusing on how we manage and maximise data in order to engage customers in new ways and give them the best possible online customer experience. We’re also interested in how we can best use digital for our employees. As such, digital and data is a crucial part of the business and will play a significant role in our ongoing success, so it’s an exciting time to get onboard and join the digital team. Whether working on the mobile app, enhancing the npower.com website or driving more customers online, the challenges and opportunities for digital and data graduates are endless.

After completing the scheme, many of our graduates stay within our digital team working on cutting-edge initiatives, while others use their transferrable skills to move into other departments. The team is supportive, friendly and there’s plenty to get involved with as a graduate, from development sessions and graduate meet-ups through to social events during and outside work hours.

What kinds of jobs are there?

From strategy and programme through to delivery and optimisation, the range of digital jobs at npower is broad and varied. We recruit for front- and back-end developers, digital business analysts, user experience experts, web designers, digital editorial staff and technical product owners – to name just a few. The experience gained during this scheme sets you up to be a future digital leader at npower, and stands you in good stead for future career success, no matter what pathway you choose.
