Supporting Stonewall and Pride at npower

12/08 2019Posted by: npower Resourcing Team Subscribe to this blog

It’s important to us to celebrate diversity and inclusion at npower. We aim to cultivate a working environment where everyone is respected and valued, with a fully inclusive environment that will help us to attract a diverse pool of talent and experience. This commitment has seen us partner with Stonewall, and this month we decided to give back to the charity that has done so much for so many people. While we have held many LGBT events up and down the country in recent times, this one was extra special as it coincided with Stonewall’s 30th birthday, giving us a great incentive to raise money for the charity.

As part of this we held a Stonewall, LGBT+ and Pride awareness and fundraising day in Leeds on August 1st. The event aimed to help people understand why we celebrate Pride, why inclusion is vital and why Stonewall is so important not only to the LGBT+ community, but also to npower. The event was held at one of the biggest areas at our Leeds site and was attended by more than 150 people across four hours. Combining education and fun, the day saw Leeds team members greeted with a tombola, face painting, prizes for best dressed, bake sales and plenty of reading material to draw attention to our causes. Every business area was represented on the day, with some taking time out of their workdays to come and celebrate with us, and others joining on their lunch breaks. We had a fantastic turnout and it was great to see so many people supporting the LGBT+ community.

After the glitter settled and the prizes were taken home, it was revealed that the event raised £376.95 for Stonewall. In addition, the day helped to share our message of support and inclusion with the npower community, bringing together our Leeds community to celebrate and raise awareness of our diverse and inclusive community.

Thank you to everyone who came and took part in the day and contributed to our fantastic fundraising total. A special thank you to our CEO Paul Coffey, our ever-supportive main sponsor, the Leeds Charity Committee which contributed a generous donation to help provide the prizes on the day, and the entire Leeds & Hull LGBT Network who helped make the day happen.
