The power behind Team England

20/02 2018Posted by: npower Resourcing Team Subscribe to this blog

The 2018 Commonwealth Games are nearly upon us, with Team England poised to take Australia by storm in April. Squads have been selected, athletes are completing their training regimes and the nation is gearing up for what will hopefully be a record-breaking medal haul – and we’re backing England at every step.

We’re delighted to be the Official Partner of Team England at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. With a history dating back to 1930 and 70 nations and territories taking part in this year’s competition, the Games present the perfect opportunity for England’s finest sporting talent to take to the field and represent their country on a global stage. More than 6,600 athletes will descend on the Gold Coast for the April 4 start of the event, including the biggest ever English team to leave UK shores for the Games. The celebration of sport, entertainment and culture will be the largest sporting event ever to be held in Australia, showcasing 18 sports and 7 para-sports.

As Team England’s first ever Official Partner in 85 years, we’re proud to be showing our support to such a strong team of athletes. We’re hoping to power them to their most successful medal haul ever at an away Games, in front of an audience of millions. More than 70% of the UK watched the last Games in 2014 and viewing figures are predicted to be the biggest ever for an away Games. And as Birmingham has been named as the host city for the 2022 Games, there’s even more reason for the nation to get behind the current crop of sports stars.

Olympic gold medallist and Commonwealth Games England President Denise Lewis helped launch npower’s partnership with Team England, joining pupils at Dorrington Academy School in Birmingham.

"The Games might be far away, but everyone can get behind our athletes and npower’s 'Power of Support' campaign will be integral to that, encouraging everyone back home to be a part of the Team England family,” she said.

Lewis was joined by Commonwealth Games and Paralympic gold medallist Dan Greaves to teach pupils about the Games and take them through a very special PE lesson.

Back at npower HQ, Head of Marketing Ed Madden is pleased to be powering the team.

“I’m excited about our official support of Team England. This is great news for npower and it’s areally effective way to build a positive association with our brand and a great opportunity to engage with existing and potential customers.”

With just under two months until the Games kick off, it’s time to get behind Team England and show your support. Stay tuned for more on how we’re helping to power the athletes to greatness.
