Transforming how we do business: npower’s new sub-metering product

At npower, we’re constantly looking for new ways to better serve our customers – and work more efficiently as a business. Our latest innovation is a Data Insights product that takes traditional sub-metering to a completely new level, designed to overhaul the way business customers receive and interpret data. It is one of our most exciting developments yet, for both our customers and our team members. The scope for this product and team is massive, meaning there’s plenty of opportunity for people at npower to get involved. 

What will the Data Insights solution do? 

We know our business customers are always looking for smart new ways to gather more accurate data and to gather that data into fewer and fewer systems. No matter how big or small, it’s crucial that businesses know exactly how, where and when they consume energy in order to maximise efficiencies and make cost savings. 

Our new Data Insights product, called In:Site, is set to revolutionise the data collection and analysis process for npower customers. The German-made ‘plug and play’ technology can be completely customised for every consumer, capturing the data that customers want it to. Research into sub-metering solutions has shown that customers want a wireless system that captures a wide range of data sets on one system, not just energy! They also want something they can install themselves and that can be built up over time – without a significant price point. In:Site ticks all these boxes, and npower has exclusivity on it for three years, giving us a fantastic competitive advantage in the marketplace. 

The solution is extremely versatile and can pick up everything from environmental data and product information to counting the number of widgets that come off production line, providing detail around the quantity and cost of energy use per unit. This gives our customers huge potential when it comes to making cost savings and improving efficiencies. For example, a customer that produces aluminium logs can monitor the temperature and humidity in their manufacturing plant, looking for trends that influence the amount of excess poor grade aluminium that they scrape off each day. By collecting the right data and producing reports on exactly what they want, they can maximise the production process to reduce waste. 

The real-time data tools are completely customisable, giving customers autonomy in a user-friendly, technology-driven solution. It’s a win-win – and it’s providing our team members with a whole new world of opportunities. 

Who are we looking for? 

The Data Insights Team is close-knit, and the growing interest in the new service means we’re expecting it to expand in line with customer demand. We’ve recently been looking for a Delivery and Supply Chain Manager to join the team and manage subcontractor relationships as well as overseeing the end-to-end service delivery to customers. 

We want people who can look for solutions, are decisive in their actions and work creatively and innovatively. Ideally, team members will have energy experience, project management expertise and issue resolution skillsets.
