November was a busy month for npower across the business, particularly for a team of 100 people in Worcester who rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help BBC Children in Need.
Friday 18 November saw 100 people volunteer in npower’s Worcester call centre to man the phones and help collect donations for the charity. Pulling a late-night shift of 7pm-1am, our volunteers went all out in a superhero fancy dress theme and spent their evenings taking calls on behalf of Children in Need. We took more than 1,800 calls on our dedicated phone lines and raised a whopping £57,000 for Children in Need, making this an event to remember.
Resourcing Team Leader Catherine Wright and Resourcing Manager Adrian Wightman were part of the fundraising team who pitched in on the day to help us reach such an impressive target.
Children in Need is the BBC’s UK corporate charity, providing grants to projects in the UK that focus on disadvantaged children and young people. The BBC Children in Need Appeal Night is hosted in November every year, when BBC One hosts an evening of singing, dancing and various celebrity escapades. The appeal dates all the wat back to 1927 when the BBC first broadcast a radio appeal for children on Christmas Day. The event has grown since then and this year has seen a total of £46,624,259 raised for children who need it most. Well done to everyone involved - we’ll see you next year!
