Annual Leave

All employees qualify for paid annual leave.

We'll explain what your entitlement is in your contract of employment and, where it's relevant, in associated collective agreements.

Make sure you take advantage of your entitlement, otherwise you may lose out on your leisure time.


Recognition is key for us. We know people like to be valued for positive contributions to a business - and we agree, that's a great way to work together.

Applause is our employee recognition scheme. It lets all of our employees recognise each other and demonstrate how they value and respect each other’s contributions.

Car Allowance

If we ask you to travel more than 10,000 business miles per year, we'll pay you a taxable car allowance. You can use that towards funding a vehicle (and that mileage requirement is pro-rated for part-time employees).

Childcare vouchers

We want to help you as much as we can to support your children. One of the ways we do this is by giving you an option to buy childcare vouchers.

Payment for them is taken from your gross salary, before income tax and national insurance is taken off. That means you make a saving by paying less income tax and National Insurance.

Cycle Scheme

Our Cycle to Work scheme lets you hire bikes and safety equipment from npower via our scheme partner, Halfords.

You get to choose your bike and equipment from a nationwide network of shops across the UK, up to a maximum value of £1,000 (inclusive of VAT). The application window opens once a year so be sure to check back regularly for the latest information

Dental Cover

Fed up of unexpected dental costs?

Joining npower’s National Dental Plan with UNUM can help you manage the cost of dental treatment, for both you and your family.

The insurance scheme offers a variety of cover, with premiums deducted straight from your net pay. There are three plan options to choose from, ranging from £7.55 – £13.05 per person per month and you can be reimbursed for both NHS and private treatment.

We run an annual invitation for you to join UNUM.


Extra is our employee offers scheme which can be accessed via Your Hub. It's free and it's easy to use, it includes bags of savings on the everyday and the extra special, at high street heavyweights and online retailers. From Apple to Zizzi – we have it all.

Eye Tests

If you use display screen equipment (DSE) you are entitled to eye test vouchers. They cover the cost of a standard eye test.

What’s more, if it turns out you need glasses solely for the purposes of your job, you’ll receive a contribution towards the cost of your glasses too.

Flexible Working

We aim to offer flexible working to all of our employees where it's practical.

We recognise that flexible working is a tool that can enhance the productivity of our employees and reputation of our business. So, although there's no absolute entitlement, if you feel that you could efficiently adopt a new working arrangement why not talk it through with your line manager?


Want to protect your and your family’s health?

We offer a voluntary Private Medical Insurance scheme at preferential rates for all employees.

Some employees qualify for Private Medical Insurance cover under our Private Healthcare Scheme. If you’re eligible this will be clearly stated in your contract of employment.

If eligible you can claim for the cost of treatment, including specialist fees and hospital expenses, up to the annual limits set by the Policy.

Life Assurance

If you decide to join the Company’s pension scheme, your dependants or beneficiaries will receive a life assurance sum of four times your annual salary if you die while you're an employee.

Parenting at npower

Whether you’re a first time parent, or have children already, we’re committed to supporting you and your family. 

We have a range of policies and guidelines in place to support all employees who are parents, including paternity, maternity and adoption leave policies, some of which offer enhanced pay, as well as a range of other paid and unpaid leave options. We are committed to supporting pregnant women and new parents and we are proud partners ofWorking Forward.


Pension plans are so important - you can't start planning too soon, for the income you'd like to have in retirement.

We offer a Defined Contribution scheme, into which you can pay 3%, 4% or 5% of your basic salary. The company will then pay twice that contribution - and of course the government will top that up too. You have a choice of 12 investment funds to select from.

Personal Accident Insurance

If you’re involved in an accident, our personal accident assurance has you covered.

If you suffer an accident and it results in a permanent disability or injury, you are insured for up to four times your annual gross salary at the time of the accident.

The cover applies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year no matter where in the world you are at the time of the accident.


Powerdraw is our very own lottery-style draw giving you the chance to win up to £1,000 per month.

Every entry to the Powerdraw will help the Electrical Industries Charity which is the national charity for people in the electrical, electronics and energy industries. They deliver the practical support to existing employees and retired colleagues who need to get back on their feet. They can help find a solution in challenging times, regardless of age, circumstances or health.
